Here are a few sneak peaks of the chapter heading illustrations I'm doing for Secret Speakers. I've used the Jugendstil font designed by Heinrich Vogeler around 1905, based on the German blackletter tradition. Instead of using his illustrations, I've replaced, and am still working on replacing them with my own. I'd love to know what you think.
Each chapter page will be laid out using the Fibonacci scale and resemble, somewhat, pages from illuminated manuscripts. Hopefully it won't interfere with the reader's experience, but will just be part of the background.

Wow Karey, are you hand drawing all of these? I think they look great. I love how you mention the chapter pages looking like illuminated manuscript pages. Sounds like it will be wonderful. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Yipper skipper. I'm drawing them. It's taken me back to my grade school days of sitting back at the kitchen table with paper and pens. I'd forgotten how much I like to draw.
