Here are Shannon Hale and I after solving the problems of the universe. We came up with the answer as superheroes do, naturally, but it will be a long time before we reveal the information. It's difficult keeping it from the bad guys. By the way, our private, super important superhero conference took place during UVU's Children's Writing Conference, but that's beside the point.
During the writer's conference, I met so many amazing people, including Shannon. (Oh wait, did I say we just met? We've known each other forever.) Carol Lynch Williams, whose novel, The Chosen One, comes out
soon, was the most peaceful, kind woman I have met in a long time.
Hearing her read outloud makes me wish
she were a children's librarian and that I got to listen to her every week because I begged my mother to take me. LuAnn Staheli was a joy to sit with during lunch, and I look forward to reading her new book, When Hearts Conjoin, about Maliyah and Kendra Herrin who were surgically separated at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. After being cloistered in my house writing alone for so many years, it felt great to be around other writers--along with librarians and school teachers. You can see LuAnn (wearing red) and Carol (wearing pink) in the picture below. So sorry you other two . . . I'll learn who you are next year!
I heard the names of local writers: Brandon Sanderson, Brandon Mull, Scott Savage, Brad Wilcox, Ken Baker, Anne Bowen, Mette Ivie Harrison, Scott E. Franson, Sharlee Glenn, and Ann Cannon. It's nice to know I've got company here in these fair mountain valleys.
Karey, I love Shannon Hale's book! Like consistently I love them, wahoo for you! -Amy
